Invisalign treatment in Lehi

If crooked or crowded teeth bother you but metal braces do not fit your life, Invisalign® clear aligners may be an option. We can help you find out if they suit your teeth.

What is Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign treatment uses a series of clear, removable trays called aligners. Each set is a little different from the last. As you move through the series, your teeth shift bit by bit toward the plan your dentist made with you.

  • Aligners are clear and hard to notice when you smile
  • You take them out to eat, brush and floss
  • Most people wear them most of the day and night

Who aligners can help

Invisalign aligners can work for many teens and adults. They may help with:

  • Crowded teeth that overlap
  • Gaps or spaces between teeth
  • Some overbites, underbites and crossbites
  • Teeth that shifted after braces years ago

Straighter teeth can also be easier to brush and floss, which may help your gums. Aligners do ask something of you. They only move teeth while they are in your mouth, so you need to wear them as directed. Your dentist will look at your teeth, gums and bite to decide if aligners can reach your goals. Very complex cases may need a different approach, and your dentist will talk with you about that. Healthy gums matter too, so any gum disease is treated first.

What to expect

  1. First visit. Your dentist examines your teeth and asks what you want to change. You can ask about time, cost and how aligners fit your routine.
  2. Scan and plan. Our team records the shape of your teeth with a digital scan. From it, a 3D plan shows how your teeth may move over the course of treatment.
  3. Get your aligners. You receive your first trays and learn how to put them in, take them out and clean them. Small tooth-colored bumps may be added to some teeth to help the trays grip.
  4. Switch trays. You move to a new set on the schedule your dentist gives you, often every week or two.
  5. Check-ins. You visit from time to time so your dentist can see how your teeth are moving.
  6. Keep your results. When your teeth reach their new spots, you wear a retainer to help them stay there.

Living with aligners

Plain water is the only thing to sip with the trays in. For meals, snacks, juice or coffee, pop them out first. Then clean your teeth before the trays go back on, since trapped food can sit against your enamel for hours. Rinse the trays and brush them gently with cool water. Hot water can warp them. Many lost aligners end up wrapped in a napkin on a lunch tray, so the case is their safest home whenever they leave your mouth. Expect a little pressure for a day or two with each new set. That is a sign the trays are working.

Cost and insurance

Your cost depends on the care you need and your dental plan. After your exam, we give you an estimate and go over what your insurance is likely to cover before any treatment starts. We work with most major dental plans and accept CareCredit.

FAQ

Questions about invisalign® treatment

How many hours a day do I need to wear them?
Most plans call for about 20 to 22 hours a day. Wearing them less can slow your progress. Your dentist will tell you what your plan needs.
How long does treatment take?
It depends on how much your teeth need to move. Small fixes can wrap up in a few months, while bigger changes can run past a year. Once your scan and plan are ready, you will get a time frame for your own case.
Will aligners change how I talk?
Some people notice a slight lisp for the first few days. It usually fades as your tongue gets used to the trays.
Can teens use Invisalign aligners?
Yes, many teens use them. They work best when the teen is ready to wear them as directed and keep track of them.
Do I need a retainer after treatment?
Yes. Teeth tend to drift back over time. A retainer helps hold your new smile in place. Your dentist will explain how often to wear it.
Does insurance cover Invisalign treatment?
Some dental plans include orthodontic benefits that may apply. Our team can check your plan and walk you through payment choices before you start.
